Rob Stanley is the founder and lead therapist here at Whiteboard Counselling. Having spent over two decades in various counselling roles throughout the GTA, Rob brings a wealth of experience to his role as psychotherapist.
Rob operates from a strength-based perspective and his clinical work is heavily influenced by Narrative and Person-Centred Therapy. Rob’s educational background—undergraduate studies in English Literature, Theology, and Cognitive Psychology; as well as a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology—greatly informs his therapeutic approach.
Rob specializes in making a strong connection with clients, one marked by empathy and empowerment. His client work includes personal counselling for individuals ages 12 and up with specific interest in the areas of: identity development; recovery from crisis and trauma; navigating life transitions; and assistance in values formation for both teens and adults.
Rob is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), and is a member of the Ontario Association of Mental Health Professionals (OAMHP). His research interests include the role of values in personal happiness; emerging frontiers in navigating stress & burnout; the central role of empathy in client growth; as well as neurobiological studies into the power of thought.
On the personal side, Rob has been married for over twenty years and has four children. He enjoys spending time with family, bingeing historical documentaries, middle distance running, and spoiling his three year-old havapoo, Ollie.
